Public Lecture: The Light Fantastic

The Astronomical Society of Australia is the peak body for professional astronomers around the nation. Each year, the ASA holds a scientific meeting and this year it comes to Fremantle. On the Wednesday (8th of July) evening (7:30pm) of the conference, the ASA presented a FREE Public lecture.

The Harley Wood Lecture was inaugurated in 1984 as an annual lecture in honour of the first President of the ASA. Harley Wood was Director of Sydney Observatory for over thirty years from 1943 to 1974.

This year, the free Harley Wood Lecture was delivered by Dr Tanya Hill, who is the Senior Curator of Astronomy at Melbourne Planetarium.

This year is also the International Year of Light. In keeping with this theme, Dr Hill gave the lecture entitled "The Light Fantastic".
